Nets pay homage to Vince Carter by retiring his No. 15 at halftime vs. Heat

Vince Carter will go down as one of the all-time NBA greats. And now, his number 15 will hang from the Barclays Center rafters and never be worn by another Nets player.

Carter revitalize a New Jersey Nets franchise that was reeling from the loss of Kenyon Martin in a sign and trade with Denver in the 2004 off-season.

Carter was disenfranchised with the direction of his club, the Raptors, and New Jersey represented a second chance for the now NBA Hall of Famer.

With Kidd throwing him eye popping lobs and his stardom reaching new heights, Carter is one of the most beloved figures in Nets history.

In a near 45 minute halftime ceremony featuring Dr J and Ian Eagle speaking to Carter's greatness, No. 15 showed his appreciation for his time with the team as his number ascended into the rafters.

It was a magical night for generations for Nets fans, and while the Nets fell 106-97 to the Heat, it will be a night that will never be forgotten.

KD, Suns bulldoze tanking Nets

For the second time since leaving Brooklyn, Kevin Durant returned to Barclays Center as a Phoenix Sun. The game went as anticipated with the Brooklyn Nets sitting out many starters due to either injury management or front office management to ensure the tank is still on track.

The Suns coasted 108-84.

Durant finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Devin Booker led all scores with 32 points.

Keon Johnson led the way for Brooklyn with 20, while D'Angelo Russell, Ben Simmons, Cam Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, Cam Thomas, Zaire Williams, among others, were out for this game.

Durant took time to reflect on his tenure in Brooklyn and what went wrong with the big three when speaking with reporters pregame. He cited covid-19, personality, conflicts, injuries and just not getting on the same page as a few of the reasons for why things failed in Brooklyn.

The book has not completely closed on Durant's possible return to the Nets, but for the time being,  Brooklyn suffered another loss at the hands of its former superstar.

Cam Johnson misfires on game-winning 3-pointer, Knicks survive 99-95

The Brooklyn Nets gave the New York Knicks everything they had. But it wasn't enough.

Cam Johnson, got a great open look in the closing seconds, but his three-pointer clanked off the back iron no good.

D'Angelo Russell outplayed Jalen Brunson, but the Knicks point guard hit two clutch free throws down the stretch to preserve the 4-point victory.

New York has now won nine straight games over Brooklyn.

Barclays Center was filled with far too much orange and blue, but the Brooklyn Block showed out to root on the Nets.

The Nets take on Kevin Durant and the Suns on Wednesday night, and then welcome the Miami Heat to town on Saturday in Vince Carter's jersey retirement ceremony.

Nets abysmal 34-7 start culminates in a 127-101 loss to OKC

The Brooklyn Nets looked like they were well on their way to another historic defeat.

Perhaps one even more embarrassing than the franchise-worst 59-point loss at the Clippers on Wednesday

After starting the game trailing 34-7, the Nets got their footing and fought back to make the game somewhat respectable in the second quarter.

Oklahoma City was just too much with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way with 27 points, 10 assists and three rebounds.

Tyrese Martin and Cam Johnson paced the Nets with 15 apiece.

Johnson returned from injury to play well in his return. DeAngelo Russell had a quieter night with nine points and seven assists.

Brooklyn is off for MLK Day before welcoming the Knicks to Barclays on Tuesday.

Russell misfires on game-winning 3-pointer, Nets fall 102-101 to Lakers

There are embarrassing losses and then there are competitive losses. The Nets suffered the most embarrassing and lopsided loss in franchise history on Wednesday night to the Los Angeles Clippers as they fell by 59 points.

On Friday, Brooklyn faced LeBron James and the Lakers, and while the result was the same as the Clippers contest, this was a hotly contested game to the final buzzer. Russell led the way for Brooklyn with 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

D'Angelo Russell had a step-back look at an open three that would have won the game for the Nets, but he was unable to put the finishing touches on a potential win against his former club.

Los Angeles played without the services of Anthony Davis, while Cam Johnson missed his ninth game of the year, with Brooklyn fashioning a 0-9 record without him in the lineup.

The road from here does not get any easier for Jordy Fernandez and the Nets as they will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road Sunday night, followed by a Tuesday night battle at Barclay Center against the crosstown rival Knicks.

Nets suffer worst loss in franchise history, 126-67 to Clippers

What more can be said when the Nets trailed by as many as 64 points and broke a franchise record for most lopsided loss in team history?

The previous record was a 52 point defeat against Houston in 1978.

Brooklyn played without Ben Simmons, DeAngelo Russell, Cam Johnson and Cam Thomas, among others.

Noah Clowney was ejected in the third quarter and Jordi Fernandez received a technical with frustrations boiling over.

James Harden, Norman Powell and Kawhi Leonard rested on the bench in the second half while the Nets struggled through a miserable night.

The Nets stay in Los Angeles and will face the Lakers on Friday.

Brooklyn halts losing streak at five with red-hot shooting in Portland

The Brooklyn Nets were pleasantly surprised that both Cam Johnson and Ben Simmons were healthy and ready to be in the starting lineup when they tipped off against the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday night.

The infusion of energy showed early with the Nets pouring in 40 first quarter points. Portland had no answers for the Nets scorching hot shooting as Brooklyn finished the day 49 of 90 from the field and 19 of 41 from 3-point range.

Johnson was the Nets leading scorer with 24 for the game, while Scoot Henderson had 25 at the half for Portland and finished with 39.

Keon Johnson and Noah Clowney added 20 as the Nets led this one virtually wire to wire. Now in the win column for the first time in six games, Brooklyn faces a back to back on the West Coast trip as they take on a familiar face in James Harden and the Clippers on Wednesday.

Nets lose tank-off to Jazz in OT clunker

The Utah Jazz were bad on Sunday night, but the Brooklyn Nets were worse.

Nic Claxton had a chance to win the game in regulation but his missed layup in the closing seconds sent the game to overtime.

Toscan Evbuomwan led the way for Brooklyn with 22 while Zaire Williams added 19. Isaiah Collier put the Jazz ahead for good in overtime with a driving layup past Claxton. Collier paced the Jazz with 22 and Colin Sexton dumped in 21.

The Nets couldn't get a shot off  down 112-111 in the extra session with Claxton flinging an air ball 3-pointer towards the rim after the buzzer.

Brooklyn tips off on Tuesday night in Portland looking to snap a five game skid.

Jokic, Westbrook triple –doubles overwhelm short-handed Nets

For the second time this season, Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook registered triple doubles in the same game.

In doing so, they became the first teammates in NBA history to achieve that feat.  Jokic had 35 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists, while Westbrook had 25 points, 10 assists and 11 rebounds.

Seven Nets reached double figures in scoring, including Keon Johnson with a team leading 22 points.

The Nets came out with a 20-12 advantage in the first quarter and outscored the Nuggets 36-32 to end the session.

From there, Denver took over. Ben Simmons registered eight points and four assists in the first quarter and added just two more points and three assists for the remaining three quarters.

Jamal Murray left this game in the third quarter with knee soreness.

Brooklyn has a laundry list of injured players on the shelf and it's showing.

The have now lost five of the last six games by double figures including four straight.

Jordy Fernandez's club will have a winnable game in Utah on Sunday night followed by another gettable game in Portland on Tuesday.

If Fernandez's crew is unable to pick at least one win over the next two, the following six games are all against serious playoff contenders.

Brooklyn's season looks like it's already headed for the NBA Draft Lottery, but there is a distinct possibility they could be staring at a winless stretch over the next eight games.

Pistons motor over Nets 113-98

The Brooklyn Nets were no match for the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night as they suffered a 15-point loss as they continue to battle injuries.

Noah Clowney had a career night with 29 points, six rebounds and three assists while five other Nets reached double figures in scoring.

Brooklyn committed 15 costly turnovers and allowed Detroit to pile up 54 points in the paint.

Michael Beasley led the way for Detroit with 23, who moved to above the .500 mark for the first time all season.

The Nets, meanwhile, are a sinking ship that is  heading quickly toward the, NBA draft lottery with many veterans out due to injury.

Even Jordi Fernandez's superb coaching can't compensate for the talent deficit the team is facing right now. With many players still a ways away from being healthy, things may get worse before they get better for Brooklyn.
