Brooklyn closes to within one game of play-in with 100-96 win over Philly

 


The Brooklyn Nets won their twentieth game of the season before the All-Star break after many oddsmakers pinned the Nets at less than 19 wins for the entire season. 

The Nets have now won six out of the past seven games and in all six wins they held their opponents under 100 points. 

Jordi Fernandez and crew had a scare late in the game when the Nets coach pulled his starters only to see Philadelphia close a 10 point gap to just four points within the last minute. 

D'Angelo Russell had 22 points and Trendon Watford dumped in 18. Brooklyn out-rebounded Philadelphia 50-38 as the Sixers were playing without Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. 

The Nets are now in the play-in mix as they enter the All-Star break. 

 

Nets cruise past Hornets 97-89 to tighten up the play-in race

 


The Brooklyn Nets won their fifth game in six contests with a steady 97-89 victory over Charlotte. Nic Claxton led the way for Brooklyn with 16 points, while six Nets reached double figures in scoring. 

The Nets have been staunched defensively over the recent hot streak, and even with the LaMelo Ball in the fold, Jordi Fernandez's crew was very stingy. 

The Hornets shot just 41% from the field and 19.4% from 3-point range. Brooklyn has now pulled to within three games in the loss column of Chicago for the final spot in the play-in tournament. 

The Nets will play host to Philadelphia on Wednesday night in the final game before the All-Star break. 

If all things break right for Brooklyn, it could be only one game back of the loss column for the final play-in spot. 

Cam Johnson will represent the Nets during Saturday night's All-Star 3-point competition.

Before Brooklyn heads into the break, they'll be looking to wrap up the first half of the schedule on a high note.  



Brooklyn outscores Miami 31-9 in fourth quarter to grab fourth win in five tries



Forget tanking, the Nets are in win-now mode. Cam Johnson led the way with 18 points and D'Angelo Russell dropped in 17 as Brooklyn ran away with the game in the final quarter. 

It was announced late Friday that Cam Johnson would represent the Nets during NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco as he'll complete in the Starry 3-point competition. 

Meanwhile on Friday at Barclays, the Nets scored 52 points in the paint and held Miami to 35.6 percent shooting from the field. 

Brooklyn dominated the rebounding department 57-39 to protect home court after Wednesday night's loss to the Wizards snapped a three-game winning streak. 

Brooklyn is back in the win column and will look to extend its consecutive win streak to two against Charlotte on Monday. 



Nets win streak halted at three after ugly loss to Wizards



 The Nets were down 10-2 and 21-9 early to the lowly Wizards and faced an uphill climb from the jump.

Brooklyn fought all the way back and grabbed a 67-66 lead after a Cam Johnson 3-pointer early in the third quarter but were outscored 53 to 35 the rest of the way.

Keon Johnson paced the Nets and led all scorers with 25, while D'Angelo Russell had a quiet night with just five points in 16 minutes, just one night after hitting the game winner. Nic Claxton had just five points and three rebounds in 23 minutes.

Washington shot a scorching 54.3 percent from the field and 46.5 percent from 3-point range. The Wizards led by as many as 25 with the Nets crashing back down to earth after a heroic late game comeback win on Tuesday night versus Houston. 

Brooklyn hosts the new-look Miami Heat on Friday night. 

Nets ground Rockets again with miraculous late game surge




 The Brooklyn Nets are going streaking. Not like the losing streaks that have characterized their first half of the season, but instead a three-game win streak to celebrate. 

Brooklyn looked like they were down and out, trailing Houston 97-93 with 9.1 seconds remaining. Then, the Nets pulled the rabbit out of the hat.

Keon Johnson sunk a late 3-pointer to close the gap to one point. Next, the Rockets committed a turnover on the ensuing inbound and the ball found D'Angelo Russell who sank an open 3-pointer for a 2 point advantage.

After a timeout, Houston's Jalen Green heaved a desperation 3-pointer that failed to draw iron in the closing seconds. 

The Nets snapped an 11-game home losing streak and extended their current win streak to three games. 

Johnson led the way for Brooklyn with 22 as the Nets will welcome the Wizards to Barclays Center Wednesday night.

Nets stun Rockets 110-98 for second consecutive win

 


No one picked the Brooklyn Nets to upset the Houston Rockets but they did exactly that on Saturday night. 

Zaire Williams enjoyed his most impressive game of the season with 21 points and eight rebounds. 

Brooklyn led 53-38 at halftime and never looked back. 

Facing former assistant coach Ime Udoka, the Nets were lights out.  Houston's head coach was visibly frazzled and frustrated along the sidelines as he burned timeout after timeout trying to stop the bleeding. 

The Nets played their most complete game of the season with D'Angelo Russell (18 points) and Nic Claxton (17 points) making life difficult for the Rockets. 

Houston travels to Brooklyn this upcoming Tuesday, February 4, with a chance at revenge. 

Nets fall in laugher to Kings, 110-96



 The Nets allowed 60 points in the paint and Jordi Fernandez was unable to beat his former club as Brooklyn dropped to 14-33 on the season. 

D'Angelo Russell led the way with 19 points, Jalen Wilson and Toscan Evbuomwan added 15 apiece. 

Brooklyn has now lost six games in a row, including 14 out of the last 16.

Fernandez and crew will regroup before taking on the Hornets in Charlotte on Wednesday. 


Nets pay homage to Vince Carter by retiring his No. 15 at halftime vs. Heat



 Vince Carter will go down as one of the all-time NBA greats. And now, his number 15 will hang from the Barclays Center rafters and never be worn by another Nets player. 



Carter revitalize a New Jersey Nets franchise that was reeling from the loss of Kenyon Martin in a sign and trade with Denver in the 2004 off-season. 

Carter was disenfranchised with the direction of his club, the Raptors, and New Jersey represented a second chance for the now NBA Hall of Famer.

With Kidd throwing him eye popping lobs and his stardom reaching new heights, Carter is one of the most beloved figures in Nets history.

In a near 45 minute halftime ceremony featuring Dr J and Ian Eagle speaking to Carter's greatness, No. 15 showed his appreciation for his time with the team as his number ascended into the rafters.

It was a magical night for generations for Nets fans, and while the Nets fell 106-97 to the Heat, it will be a night that will never be forgotten. 

KD, Suns bulldoze tanking Nets



 For the second time since leaving Brooklyn, Kevin Durant returned to Barclays Center as a Phoenix Sun. The game went as anticipated with the Brooklyn Nets sitting out many starters due to either injury management or front office management to ensure the tank is still on track.

The Suns coasted 108-84. 

Durant finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Devin Booker led all scores with 32 points. 

Keon Johnson led the way for Brooklyn with 20, while D'Angelo Russell, Ben Simmons, Cam Johnson, Bojan Bogdanovic, Cam Thomas, Zaire Williams, among others, were out for this game. 

Durant took time to reflect on his tenure in Brooklyn and what went wrong with the big three when speaking with reporters pregame. He cited covid-19, personality, conflicts, injuries and just not getting on the same page as a few of the reasons for why things failed in Brooklyn. 

The book has not completely closed on Durant's possible return to the Nets, but for the time being,  Brooklyn suffered another loss at the hands of its former superstar. 

Cam Johnson misfires on game-winning 3-pointer, Knicks survive 99-95




 The Brooklyn Nets gave the New York Knicks everything they had. But it wasn't enough.

Cam Johnson, got a great open look in the closing seconds, but his three-pointer clanked off the back iron no good. 

D'Angelo Russell outplayed Jalen Brunson, but the Knicks point guard hit two clutch free throws down the stretch to preserve the 4-point victory.

New York has now won nine straight games over Brooklyn.  

Barclays Center was filled with far too much orange and blue, but the Brooklyn Block showed out to root on the Nets. 

The Nets take on Kevin Durant and the Suns on Wednesday night, and then welcome the Miami Heat to town on Saturday in Vince Carter's jersey retirement ceremony.
